Magician quest line question Spoilers

I’m currently on the quest line regarding the witch (mom) and the magician. I have spoken to dad and the fairy, but have no clue where to go from here. Any hints/steps to take?

Ok, I managed to make a pick axe, but I’m not sure what to do with it. I am not able to use it on any ore drops I see, not on any of the features. Do I need to have multiple pick axes?
