I am new to the game, just downloaded it a month ago or so. It is a fun little game.

Now I am more or less stuck trying to do the wizard tower. Guardians I can manage with firebolt but wizards are the problem - as soon as there are more than one of them. They seem to take 75-100 swings of my sword to kill, meaning the other two will have plenty of time to kill me with firebolts. I have maxed melee and strength and cast giant strength but I am still doing very little damage to them. An occasional critical will hurt them a little but it is not uncommon to do either no damage or just 1-2 points per hit. Not a problem if there is only one - just tedious - but despite a willpower potion and regeneration two others shooting firebolts that long will do it.

I am still using the uncommon sword of the captain (10-18 damage, +6 will, +6 defence) I found a long, long time ago. SInce then I have found much better armour amulets and rings but not weapons. I have found a slightly better flail, warhammer or whatever but it is two handed and losing my shield is not worth it.

Is this just bad luck and I should get back to grinding the hard tunnels or possibly mines or dragon caves or is this the best weapon there is? Happy to do the grinding but I have now been doing that quite a while without any improvement and I am starting to question if there actually is anything better.

I was in the same situation. For now all i was able to do is craft a dwarven club (13-21 + random bonus)

Edit: 1 club + 20 iron ingots

Maybe there isn't anything then. It just feels odd as my other gear has been improving over time. I don't even remember where I found the sword but it was a long time ago.

I tried a while using a two handed, slightly better weapon but losing both my shield (with a defence bonus) + the willpower & defence I get from the sword just makes me a sitting duck - or requires me to spend a lot more on defence - which really comes only from strength so it just balances out.

I beat game while back last year! Wizards are not a favorite of mine. Anytime! I recall change up your stat's which you can do back at "Dad's" Place a room above the portal to the Fairies Realm there's a minion who lets you reassign your points for better chance of survival. Also at the Mountain Castle where you are asked to go to the wizards tower, there is a minion who will let you reassign your stat points. Focus stats that affect magical effects like Intelligence, Wisdom, and still maintain agility, hit point, defense for physica attacks as well cause you still encounter melee attacks as well spell attacks. Its all trial & error when reassigning points to the situation at hand and dealin with the traveling to and from location. If focus more on physical than magical, spell attacks will hurt worst. If more magical defense than physical attack hurt worse. Another thing strip all equipment, items so you have your base stat points than remove and reassign your stat points ( you may have to reset a bit when changing points and re equipped your items weapons etc go traveling fight in areas that offer what attacks your defending and using weapons spells to fight with. Keep returning to reassign till get use to stats point placement) after reassign then re equip to continue to raise stats for additional defense offense. Hope this helps i know its alot of detail but best way i can describe to you. you will get the hang of it once learn point replacement. Also throught this forum are many helpful solutions from experienced players as well those who were new at this. Whenever I start a new game I haven't tried I do so as a rookie as compared to games I know alot about till I get used to everything. Forums was a hugh help I personally used as directed by those you posted. I finally managed to "beat" the tower. Just trial and error and a lot of reloading at stairs. Eventually I managed all levels without a room full of wizards. Now I am otherwise stuck. There is the wizard on the 6th floor and the mom on top floor. Both gave me very vague tasks to do and I have no idea what it is I am supposed to do next.
